Before the Expedition

Pre-Expedition High-Altitude Acclimatization & Training Program

Before the main expedition, Alpine India Expeditions organizes and supervises a dedicated high-altitude acclimatization and technical training programme for every climber.

Climbers do not need to arrange this programme independently. AIE manages the programme, including the route, altitude progression, technical training, monitoring and recovery period.

Programme Includes

  • Progressive altitude gain with controlled sleeping-altitude increases
  • Above 3,000m: generally no more than 300-500m increase in sleeping altitude per day
  • Regular acclimatization and rest days
  • Progressive exposure toward ~5,000m, where route and conditions permit
  • Technical skills revision: glacier travel, crampons, ice axe, fixed ropes and crevasse rescue
  • Individual altitude-response monitoring
  • Safety-first decisions, including stopping ascent or descending when required

After the Programme

A planned two-day recovery and assessment period will follow the programme before the main expedition, subject to each climber's condition, altitude response, weather and operational conditions.

The main expedition will then begin with continued progressive acclimatization.

Programme Objective

The programme is designed to improve high-altitude readiness, technical preparedness and team coordination before the main expedition.

It does not eliminate altitude-related risks or guarantee acclimatization or summit success.

Day 1

Arrive in Delhi

Arrive in Delhi, where our representative will meet you at the airport, assist you, and transfer you to the hotel for an overnight stay.

Delhi to Rishikesh (350 M) | 263 km | 6 hrs drive

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel, take some free time in Delhi, then drive to Rishikesh and check into the hotel.

Rishikesh to Uttarkashi (1,200 M) | 175 km | 7 hrs drive

Depart from Rishikesh and drive to Uttarkashi, where dinner and overnight lodging are arranged.

Uttarkashi to Gangotri (3,415 M) | 100 km | 4.5 hrs drive

Drive to Gangotri, the mountain town on the banks of the Bhagirathi River and the start point of the trek.

Gangotri to Bhojbasa (3,780 M) | 14 km trek | 6 hrs

Begin the trek toward the Gomukh glacier snout, with views of Himalayan peaks and the Bhagirathi range.

Bhojbasa to Gaumukh (3,892 M) to Nandanvan (4,340 M) | 10 km trek | 5 hrs

Ascend gradually to Gaumukh, the source of the Ganges, with views of Shivling and Bhagirathi, then continue toward Nandanvan.

Nandanvan to Vasuki Tal Base Camp (4,800 M) | 10 km trek | 7 hrs

Climb steadily over the Chaturangi Glacier toward Vasuki Tal, the expedition base camp, and set up camp for the night.

Expedition Days

Establish higher camps, work toward the summit window, and return safely to base camp according to conditions and team readiness.

Base Camp to Bhojbasa | 20 km trek

After breakfast, pack up and begin the walk back to Bhojbasa, where camp is set for the night.

Bhojbasa to Gangotri to Uttarkashi | 14 km trek and 100 km drive

Descend from Bhojbasa to Gangotri and continue by road to Uttarkashi.

Drive to Rishikesh, check into the hotel, and visit Ram Jhula for Ganga Aarti in the evening.

Packing Guide

Pack light, but do not compromise on the essentials needed for a serious high-altitude expedition.

Clothing

Thermal base layers, fleece, down jacket, waterproof shell, gloves, hat, sunglasses, socks, buff, and balaclava.

Personal Gear

75L+ backpack, headlamp, trekking poles, hydration system, hygiene kit, sunscreen, lip balm, first-aid kit, and sanitizer.

Technical Gear

Camera, power bank, multi-tool, GPS or map and compass, identification, permits, and insurance documents.

Food & Snacks

Energy bars, dry fruits, nuts, and electrolytes for hydration and quick recovery.

Eligibility

Age

Participants must be at least 18 years old and in good physical condition.

Fitness

You should be able to walk long days over uneven, rocky, or snowy terrain while carrying required gear.

Experience

Prior trekking or mountaineering experience is strongly recommended, especially above 6,000 meters.

Mindset

Mental resilience, teamwork, calm decision-making, and adaptability are essential for high-altitude expeditions.
